Step 4: Get your federal tax identification number (FEIN)
Perhaps the most important identification number you are going to have for your business is your FEIN. To get your FEIN, visit this website, Apply for an Employer Tax Identification Number, and complete the form. The preparer will need to provide his/her name, address, and social security number. The preparer will also have to provide the entity type and tax designation, as well as the company’s name, address, and business type.
When you complete the form, you will be able to immediately download IRS form SS-4, which will list your FEIN and tax filing due date. You should download this form and keep it in your files.
